In affiliation with reputable institutes, (TLDI) is committed to providing youths and young adults with moral leadership education in order to revive and re-orient our core values as a nation. At (TLDI)we have infallible evidences that confirm thatleadership education is a reliable solution to ending the leadership crisis which has led to corruption, poverty, violence etc.
Today, young people are looking out for direction. They are in dire need for role models worthy of emulation. Thus, people’s behavior is influenced by what they see or hear others do. Without pragmatic, effective and efficient leadership bound by honesty and integrity, the daily issues bedeviling us as a nation will keep hindering our vision of a wealthy people who have compassion and a desire to achieve the collective dream.
The National Bureau of Statistics has stated that about 60.9% of Nigerians lived in absolute poverty as at 2010. The current statistic is grave and may not be worthy of mention.
It is pertinent to note that without proper leadership, no nation can experience advancement politically, socially or economically. Leadership education will go a long way to infuse the nations value into the minds of our young emerging leaders. What make nations great are leaders who are pragmatically ready to serve its people wholeheartedly with absolute dedication and integrity.
Leadership is undoubtedly a very big challenge in Africa, and Nigeria in particular.Having a competent, effective and purposeful leadership that is capable of turning its highly chorused great potentials into real economic and political power has been quite elusive for over five decades of her independence (KayodeAsajuet al., 2014).
Good Leadership therefore, is a critical factor in nation building. And that is our goal at (TLDI).
The model to be adopted in achieving our goals will be through educating and engaging this youths and young ones within the society as structured below.
The best tool to economic development is Education. Education has become a key factor in the stability of economic growth.
For countries to attain stability in its economic growth, they need to unleash the potential of the human mind. And there is no better tool for doing so than education (Elizabeth, 2011).
At (TLDI), we address the need for education at different levels. In order to determine what level of education every youth requires in pursuing a successful career, every youth undertakes the enrolment programme. This programe is designed to determine youths aptitude as well as inherent skills and measure such findings against the desired educational wants of the individual involved to enable them successfully pursue a career. The programe helps us to classify youths into the following groups for intervention.
- Formal Education: Formal education is classroom-based, provided by trained teachers. Formal education is an important part of the everyday lives of youths and—along with family—is the most important source of educational progress in most countries. At (TLDI), we address this need by running advocacy programs on the benefits of acquiring formal education to youths, run seminars and conferences for their parents and guardians as well as provide scholarships to selected persons with distinctive qualities.
- Vocational Training:com defines vocational training as a training that emphasizes skills and knowledge required for a particular job function (such as typing or data entry) or a trade (such as carpentry or welding). At (TLDI), vocational training is used to prepare youths for a certain trade or craft. Vocational training is education only in the type of trade a person wants to pursue, forgoing traditional academics. That’s why we interview identified youths, test their current competences, evaluate their skills and match them against vocational partners who run structured trainings for a period before setting them up with starter packs on successful completion of their training.
- Entrepreneurship Training:Entrepreneurship education is a collection of formalized teachings that informs, trains, and educates anyone interested in participating in socioeconomic development through a project to promote entrepreneurship awareness, business creation, or small business development. At (TLDI), we develop trainings seeking to foster self-esteem and confidence by drawing on the individual’s talents and creativity, while building the relevant skills and values that will assist youths in expanding their perspectives on schooling and opportunities beyond. Methodologies are based on the use of personal, behavioral, motivational, attitudinal and career planning activities. We have identified persons who have excelled in certain areas of life and have developed models to have these persons speak and mentor the youths either directly, by electronic means or by patent approval to use their materials as teaching manuals for youths.
We know that young people are energetic, creative and very resourceful. Our goal at (TLDI), is to create opportunities for these young people especially the less privilege to become peer educators, job creators, entrepreneurs and community leaders.
We believe that the right people to actually engage in the fight against illiteracy and poverty are the young people. When youths have real knowledge of the problems facing their country and the root cause and are able to develop dreams that are all inclusive then, we are on our way to recording victories.
(TLDI), engagement platform is a program designed to encourage every beneficiary of (L.E.E.P) to become an ambassador who is not only advocating against illiteracy but has become a meaningful contributor to solving the same problems facing young people. Our objectives are to create an all-inclusive approach in youth development. Under this scheme, youths are mobilized as volunteers and carry out voluntary services with reputable organizations such as the World Health Organization, and the Red Cross Society to mention just a few.
